Friday's Question

Reflect on the week's heap of information. A colleague asks you to share 3 things you will use in your class from Technology Tools for Teachers. What would be your response?

  1. I would use the Google tips that we learned. That is a quick easy way to get the information you need. I would have the students use the toondoo. I think this activity is perfect for when the students use it in a book project or something like that. I woul use the Prezi to demonstrate a topic. I believe that people like the graphic organizer format much better than the linear-styled powerpoint. This format would keep students much more engaged than the typical powerpoint.

  2. 1. Classtool: Random Name Picker & Countdown Timer

    2. Diigo

    3. Wordle (and Wordle of the Day)

    4. Google Advanced Search - file types

Thanks again for a FANTASTIC week!

  3. I definitely will use the Random Name Picker. Students always accuse teachers of "always" calling on them. This is the perfect way to eliminate that problem. I also like the idea of creating random questions that can be brought to the screen.

I have used and will continue to use the wordle application. It is a great way to teach character traits to students and also use as a get acquainted activity.

Finally, I will use the google.docs to create meeting agendas this year and send to all house members and our supervising principal.

I think my yodio is my best project. I spent a lot of thought on what would go in there and spent more time on that than any other project. I am pleased with the result.

  4. One thing that I would use from TT4T would be my voicethread. I like the idea of using technology to enhance my LA curriculum. I know that my own children enjoyed commenting on my voicethread for my project. I know that my 5th graders will also enjoy this. We would still be learning about sentences and parts of speech with this type of technology.

My comic will be used as part of my presentation to my 4th grade keyboarding students about using the computers. It deals with breaking copyright. This comic could lead into having my students create their own comics about using the computer.

I would also like to use Animoto with the Junior High students this year. I would like to have them take pictures of their week experience at Nature's Classroom and put it into an Animoto to share with their parents or to show other prespective school families.

  5. The three most interesting things I learned about this week were: how to set up the iGoogle page, the calendar, and the teacher websites.

There are so many new things in the realm of technology! I feel I've barely scraped the surface, but I am motivated to continue to investigate and implement new ideas.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SPENDING THE WEEK WITH US!

  6. I would highly recommend Voicethread as a superlative tool for collaborative group work, since it also contains so many options for creativity.
The Yodio appears to be an upgrade of the well-worn Powerpoint project, particularly for students who are reluctant to type information and would rather relate via a phone call.
I have become impressed with the Blog that we used for communicating and see more versatility for using it now.
Finally, I would like to suggest that the slideshare is a fantastic location to guard the powerpoints that any teacher has acquired over the years. It's a great location to re-group and re-organize, and therefore I have to add this as a fourth choice.

  7. If one of my colleagues asks what I learned, I would say:

    1) I want to create some fun in the classroom with characters and creativity such as with Vokis.

    2) Short slideshows are invaluble such as Flickr and Animoto and I can show them to the class as part of school curriculum integration.

    3) I used the telephone to record my audio for Yodio and when I finally figured out how it worked, then it was great!

  8. There were SO many applications to work with. Three that I will definitely use soon are
    1. Googledocs - this is a great way to keep documents and projects, and to work together.
    2. ToonDoo - would be great for getting information to the kids and also for students to use in their writing.
    3. VoiceThread - A different way to present and a way to get feedback.

    Thanks for a great week!

  9. I would definitely show them the random name picker. How often do teachers get the, "That's not fair"?
Toondoo would also be a great tool for any teacher.
And of course googledocs. What a great convenience tool for any teacher. How many times does it happen that you get home and have forgotten a paper, quiz, or test?

  10. Ooops - reflections! Although I already knew about many of the tools, it was so awesome to have time to actually interact with them - something I'd trudge through at home. You've given me the push to play with more before school begins. Now, I also know about even MORE tools I hadn't run into, yet.

  11. I so enjoyed this class!
These are the applications I will definitely use, but as a library media specialist, I will use the various Google and Web 2.0 tools in response to student and teacher needs and interests.
    iGoogle
I will specifically use Google docs to collaborate with teachers.
I also plan to keep the LMC schedule on my iGoogle page—I think my best bet would be to create a new iGoogle page for school because the page I created in class would distract me from my work.

PowerPoint in slideshare although I find slideshare a bit difficult to use.
Every year, I create a PowerPoint presentation of an introduction to the LMC. Included in the presentation are instructions on accessing the school and district LMC catalogs and the online databases to which our school subscribes. Included in the presentation, too, are descriptions of the services and collections of the LMC.
In the past, staff would need to be connected to the school server to access this PowerPoint presentation, but with the use of slideshare, staff can access it at home or really, anywhere.
Recommend Voice Thread to teachers to use with these units (good way to introduce subjects):
    Editorial cartoons—8th grade
    Historical photos—US History
Photos depicting aspects of cultures/landmarks from other countries—6th grade Asia and Australia and 7th grade Latin America and Africa.
I am the faculty advisor for our school Newspaper Club. During the past school year, Sonic Foundry provided us digital taping equipment to put our newspaper online. I think we can do it in other ways with Yodio or?

  12. three resources i plan to put to good use:
    1) calendar feature within igoogle as a personal organizer with the many events and responsiblities inherent in my position(s) as teacher/coach/dept. chair/ team leader/ etc...

    2) Toondoo - I will use my toondoo I created this week in conjunction with my new data projector in my classrroom to introduce students to some of the key components that make up an effective editorial cartoon. I will then make toondoo an option for students who feel the need to use this approach to cartooning.

    3) Animoto to make quick homemade video or slide presentations of featured student work.

    4) Timeline software - Either xtimeline or Our Story to construct instructional materials or as a resource for some students to use in specific project work.
